Take More Pictures:
Film Frugality Mentality

The age of the digital camera is upon us. It's time to take more pictures! No longer do we have to count down on the roll of film until it is full.

We can pick up our digital camera and snap pictures all day, load the pictures on the computer, then start over again.

Even though more and more people use digital cameras, many people still hang on to the film mentality!

Limited by rolls of film.

With a film camera, people tried to make rolls of film go further. Making them last as long as possible before buying a new one. Trying to never waste a picture.

Enter the digital age.

Suddenly we have these amazing digital cameras. Pictures are stored on a card, then transferred directly to a computer. There's no need to buy more film or wait for photos to be developed.

Film frugality mentality.

You can't mistake someone with film frugality mentality. They'll walk around and take one picture here, one picture there, another picture somewhere else. They carefully count each picture they take.

Are you limiting yourself by being too frugal with your photography?  You may not realize is that you are missing out on some amazing photo opportunities!

Take More Pictures!

As I take pictures,  I'll take several photos moving around to try different angles and get different lighting on the subject.  In the same situation, other people might just take one and say that's good enough.

Why take lots of pictures?

The more pictures you take, the larger selection of pictures you have later. If one out of a hundred pictures is a fantastic shot, basically you'll have to take a lot more pictures to get more great shots, right? The problem is that if you take less pictures, you have a much less chance of getting a great photo. Fewer pictures narrow down your chances.

A second's difference can make or break a photo!

If you take less pictures, you settle for lesser quality. Subjects move, light changes... There's a lot of variables that can change the way a picture turns out.

For example...

Yesterday I was taking pictures of a beautiful mare. It was late afternoon, and there were plenty of shadows to work around. Of course, she was moving around quite a bit... As usual, I took a series of shots. Later, I was able to pick the one that had the best lighting because I had taken plenty of pictures.  If I had taken one picture, I would only have one picture, and not picture number five that turned out to be a fantastic shot!

Let go of the frugality mentality.

Think digital and start taking more pictures. Move around. Get in more angles and try something different. Stick to it and take lots of crappy pictures. At least a few will turn out great!

Take more pictures... The more pictures you take the better your photography will be!
