Lake Reflection in Jasper National Park, Canada
Located in the Canadian Rockies, Jasper National Park is rugged and mountainous. You can connect with nature along over 1,200 kilometers (660 miles) of trails, explore Athabasca Glacier, or enjoy a nice long soak in Miette Hotsprings.
There are large populations of bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer and other large animals, as well as their predators, living in this area of the Rocky Mountains. Jasper is one of the few places in southern Canada where grizzly bears are still found.
To the south, Jasper joins with Banff National Park along the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93), which offers breathtaking views of massive icefields. The Parkway joins Jasper townsite and the town of Lake Louise and is 230 kilometers (130 miles) long. Highway 93 crosses two summits; Sunwapta Pass at 2035 meters and Bow Summit at 2069 meters, and takes travelers to the edge of the treeless, alpine tundra.
Jasper National Park is part of the stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site and the delicate ecosystems are carefully protected. Spanning rugged mountains, forests, alpine meadows and wild rivers, Jasper covers 10,878 square kilometers (4200 square miles). The World Heritage Site is made up of four national parks (Jasper, Banff, Yoho and Kootenay) and three provincial parks (Hamber, Mount Robson and Mount Assiniboine).
