Digital Photography Art:
Learn to Inspire the Inner Artist
What is digital photography art? What is an artist? Is a photographer an artist? What is art anyway?
These are puzzling questions about artistic photos for which no one
seems to have a unanimous answer.
As for me, I love photography as an art form. However,
the pictures most people take are taken simply for the sake of taking a photo of
a person or an event without any thought of "art."
I didn't always have a camera.
I never had one when I was a child or teen. But I did love art. I loved to
color with pencils as a youngster. And art class was my favorite subject in
school. I even won several school awards for my efforts.
But me? A photographer? It never entered my mind. When I did get my own
camera, suddenly a whole new way of thinking opened up to my view. With a camera
in hand I could capture and appreciate the beauty everywhere around me.
What does art have to do with photography?
Everything! Photography is more than just pointing the camera in the
direction of your subject and pushing a button.
Art is the ability to see shapes, shadows, then colors and record it upon a
medium. That's what happens I when I take a photo. My eyes see something
beautiful that can be preserved for future enjoyment.
The literal of meaning of the word photography is writing (graphy) with light
(photo). Photography is simply the means of capturing the beauty illuminated
everywhere you look.
Why does photography resonate with me?
It is thrilling and exciting to me to photograph something beautiful. Yes, we
all see flowers and sunsets every day, but changing that beauty into a still
picture is something that absolutely fascinates me.
How can you learn to see art in your photos?
Discovering beauty in your everyday life is simple. Look closer at what you
see around you. What colors can you appreciate? Are there unusual shapes or
combinations of shapes? How does the current light affect the way an object
looks?
What if you are not artistic?
That's what YOU think anyway. The truth of the matter is everyone has an
artist within them, waiting to be cultivated. If you can recognize colors and
shapes, you can discover beauty to be photographed.
Just try it.
Go for a walk down the street. What do you see? Let your eyes tell the artist
inside of your brain about the interesting things everywhere.
Notice the textured pattern of the pavement, the shapes of the clouds in the
sky, vertical lines of a building, or a bright splash of a street sign. Simple
things, but as you notice them, you will begin to discover even more interesting
subjects to photograph!
Anyone with a camera can take a picture.
But do you think about composing and capturing the beauty in shapes, colors,
and shadows?
Simply look around you... And you, too, can uncover beauty the next time
you pick up your camera. You'll be amazed at your own digital photography art.
